Everyone loves a feel-good story, especially when it involves strangers opening their arms and welcoming others into their lives. CBS Evening News shared a video about a widow invited to eat with a table of strangers at one of her favorite barbecue spots.
People who live in Oxford, Alabama, find Brad’s Bar-B-Que some of the best barbecue around. When 80-year-old Eleanor Baker went for a bite to eat, her visit went a little differently than it usually did. Eleanor said, “I think it was a God thing. I think God sent me there.”
Eleanor lives by herself with her dog, Rufus. She has a big family, but they mostly live out of town and are not able to visit often. Eleanor was alone the night she went to eat at Brad’s. Shortly after Eleanor arrived there, three young men also arrived to eat at Brad’s.
Jamario Howard said that they were all sitting around having a good time when he noticed Eleanor sitting by herself. Jamario told CBS that he hates seeing people eat alone, so he got up from his table and went to go sit at Eleanor’s table with her.
Jamario and Eleanor joined up with his other two friends, and they all ended up having dinner together. Eleanor labeled it as a “really nice, pleasant evening.” In an interview with CBS, the three young men explained that they also enjoyed Eleanor’s company and already feel like they are her grandkids.

Jamario said, "I used to say when I was younger and I still say today, like I’m gonna change the world somehow and I don’t know how because I’m not rich, I’m not famous, and I’m not very smart either! … But we can show the world that it’s all right to be kind and then before long maybe the world will be a much better place."
A little goes a long way when it comes to being kind. You never know what someone is going through or what chapter of life they are currently in. So never hesitate to make someone’s day special.
