Nancy Kay Shedleski's husband died in 2015. But nobody knew.
The 69-year-old tried her hardest to dispose of her husband without people knowing. She settled on dismembering him and putting his body in the trash shortly after his death.
She didn't want anyone to know he had died because she still wanted to cash in on his Social Security benefits. She illegally collected the benefits between August 2015 and December 2019.
In 2019, the Social Security Administration reportedly received an anonymous tip that Joseph Shedleski was deceased.
While the SSA office is familiar with fraud and spouses continuing to collect after their partners have died, this case is on another level based on how Nancy Shedleski disposed of the evidence. Currently, there is an open case that involves her.
She's reportedly going to have to face the charge of "abuse of a corpse." Years ago, Nancy Shedleski relocated from the scene of the crime and currently lives in Las Vegas.
According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Joseph Shedleski had been receiving approximately $2,000 a month since 2009. In the investigation, it was noted that he hadn't received any medical care since May 2015, which helped in flagging the situation.
The Social Security office tried calling in July 2019, and after briefly trying to dodge the calls, Nancy Shedleski ended up contacting the office to state that she and her husband were living together in Las Vegas. When SSA officials visited, she said that he was traveling. Eventually, she lied further and said he "disappeared."
