What started off as a yearlong "temporary" separation for Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean and his wife, Rochelle McLean, has turned into a decision to end their marriage. In a joint statement posted on Instagram, the couple announced the news of their decision on January 1, 2024.
"As you all know we have been separated for over a year now," the statement started. "While we hoped for reconciliation we have decided to officially end our marriage. It is with deep love and respect that we have made this decision."
"Our focus now is moving forward in the healthiest possible way with friendship and coparenting our girls at the forefront of this next chapter. We appreciate your kindness respect and privacy at this time," the statement concluded.
The couple had been married for 12 years. In March 2023, they publicly confirmed that they were "temporarily" separated. “The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another, and our family," they said in a joint statement at the time.

The former pair started dating in 2009 and got married two years later, in December 2011. They had their first daughter, Elliott, in November 2012. Their second daughter, Lyric, was born in March 2017.
