Ashley Hebert Rosenbaum rose to fame after appearing on The Bachelorette in 2011. She met and married her husband, JP Rosenbaum, on the show.
Now a mom with over 300,000 Instagram followers, Ashley is definitely used to receiving unsolicited advice from commenters. Like most famous moms, she faces plenty of mom shaming online.
But occasionally, those comments are actually helpful! In this case, a commenter alerted Ashley to her daughter Essex's health condition, torticollis.
Ashley and JP welcomed Essex, their second child, in 2016. At the time, Ashley posted a lot of photos of her adorable daughter.
"Somebody wrote me a message saying, 'Hey, get her checked out' because she was always twisted, she had torticollis," Ashley told People.
She didn't think much of the comment at first. But she did end up getting Essex examined, and it turned out that the commenter was completely right.
Ashley and JP Rosenbaum got married in 2012 after meeting on The Bachelorette. They now have two children together, son Fordham, 4, and daughter Essex, 2.
Like many new parents, Ashley and JP enjoy sharing photos of their family on social media. But unlike most people, they have an audience of 500,000 watching their every post.
Ashley and JP are no strangers to living in the public eye — their entire relationship took place on TV, including their wedding!
At this point, they're used to hearing commentary about their lives from fans.
A lot of comments on Ashley's page fall into the mom-shaming category. You know the type — they're far from positive or helpful.
But in one case, an Instagram commenter actually gave Ashley a helpful tip. She alerted Ashley to her child's health condition.
It started two years ago, after Essex was born.
"Our daughter, when she was born, I was posting pictures of her and somebody wrote me a message saying, 'Hey, get her checked out' because she was always twisted, she had torticollis," Ashley told People.
Ashley explained, "Someone said, 'Get it checked out because my son had the same thing.'"
She didn't take the comment seriously at first, because hello, it's an Instagram comment.
But then she thought twice.
"I read [the comment] and was like, 'Oh whatever,' but then I was like, 'Oh my God, this person is right,'" she said.
Ashley continued: "I got her checked out and she had it. We got the baby helmet and everything!"
Torticollis is a "twisting of the neck that causes the head to rotate and tilt at an odd angle," per Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Symptoms include a head that tilts to one side and difficulty turning the head.
The cause of torticollis is unknown, but most people with the condition are born with it, like Essex. It may be caused by a baby's position in the uterus.
Luckily, the treatment for torticollis can be relatively simple as long as it's caught early — and thanks to this observant commenter, Essex got treated quickly.
With Essex and Fordham at home, Ashley and JP's family is complete. They're not looking to have any more kids, Ashley told Us Weekly in 2018.
"[We have] a boy and girl, healthy and happy, we’re done! It’s perfect," she said.
Now little Essex is happily helmet-free! Ashley and JP absolutely love being parents, and their family is so adorable!
