Billy Bush Is Spending Every Night Eating Dinner With His Ex-Wife And Their Kids

Relationships end for all types of reasons. Sometimes you just fall out of love with your partner. Other times, you simply grow apart. Then there are some other reasons that might destroy your relationship altogether. If there was cheating involved, you might want nothing to do with your partner anymore.

Billy Bush and Sydney Davis got married in April 1998. While together, they had three daughters. Things seemed strong from the outside, but the two chose to publicly separate back in 2017. They blamed it on irreconcilable differences. Still, for a star, Billy's marriage lasted longer than most.

The two still had to be in each other's lives due to the kids, but it seems like their arrangement has worked out quite well. Billy was recently interviewed on Dennis Quaid's podcast, The Dennissance, and talked about how this situation we're currently in has meant more good news for his family. He's actually been joining them for dinner every night. As a family unit, they've gotten stronger.

"Every night, I'm with my ex-wife and my kids and we all have dinner together and we're back together," he said. "She's one of the greatest people on the planet and a phenomenal chef extraordinaire." But that's not it — they also hang out after dinner is over.

"We play games every night and it's like, wow," he added. "It's fantastic. So that's really good." Their daughters are also at a good level where they've been able to work past the separation. Their oldest daughter Josie is 21. Their second, Mary, is 19. Lillie, their youngest, is 15.

Billy Bush made the press during the last presidential election cycle, after an interview was aired in which the future president and Billy were caught making lewd comments. While the interview managed to get Billy fired, that wasn't the reason why he and his wife divorced. Billy made that clear during his interview with Dennis Quaid.

Instead, he puts the blame on a mid-life crisis. "The mid-life crisis, 360 [degrees]. Let's just go, all of it at once!" he said. "You're just riddled with bullets. You get a kaboom," he said. "I got a full kaboom — professional, private, personal, all of it." But at the very least, it sounds like he's been handling it well.

That said, he still acknowledges it was a rough few years. What helped him get by was the support of his friends. "The reason why I'm allowed to be the way I am today and I'm full force and I'm back doing what I'm doing and I'm all guns blazing is because of the public support and the private support, from you and Cindy Crawford and Julie Bowen and Kate Walsh and all of the people I love in this business," he said.

He also admitted that the added time in the spotlight helped him grow into a better person. "What's interesting about life is watching somebody get up and watching someone come back," he said. "How have they changed? I'm a much nicer person. I'm much more curious about other people's experiences. I only take the good out of it at this point."

He also said that the incident may have made him a little more human. "Look, nobody goes unscathed in this world," he said. "And I'm not special or extraordinary. My circumstances are definitely unique. But everybody has something."

Dennis Quaid was proud of his friend for stepping up to talk about it. "Speaking with Billy Bush was an extraordinary experience. He has such a unique story — achieving so much early on to having it all disappear in the blink of an eye," Dennis said. While Billy had a bad moment, it seems as if the world has welcomed him back.

And perhaps he might end up making amends with his ex. He was with Sydney for more than two decades. The two have been there for each other through both bad and good. And it's nice to know that when times get bad, they're pushing any negative feelings away for the sake of their family.

As for Billy, it seems like he has nothing but love in his heart for his ex. While he admitted there were a lot of difficulties throughout the relationship, he seems to know what went wrong this time around. "We got married young and had our first child right away," he said to People magazine back in 2018. "We're taking a step back. We get to explore and take our time. She's been so awesome through everything. I love her very much."

He was also very real about the course of his life. "I have my dark moments," he admitted to the publication. "I’ve learned to embrace them. I’m grateful to be a more conscientious person. And I walk again with a spring in my step." Self-improvement is one of the hardest things to achieve, but Billy seems to be doing just fine.

The couple's divorce was made official in 2019. When their separation was first announced, Billy's lawyer referred to it as a "short-term break." It's likely that they both figured they might get back together at some point. However, in two years, it seems as if they felt like permanent separation was the best idea. The two of them also came together to help out Josie as she struggled with her sobriety.

But Josie — along with their two other daughters — is healthier than ever these days, thanks to the support from her friends and family. "They’re starting to take off," Billy said to People, in regard to his daughters. "The journey was great, but seeing them where they are and making awesome decisions and taking care of their lives is fascinating. It’s awesome."

No matter what, it's great that Billy is using this time to reconnect with the family. It shows that no matter what status Billy has with his ex-wife, he'll always respect her and feel a connection with her. Billy Bush and his family are all coming out of this time period as stronger people.
