The announcement of Chrissy Teigen's third pregnancy took many fans of the cookbook author by surprise. Chrissy is an open book in all of the best ways. Those who have followed her and husband John Legend for some time know that the couple struggled to conceive for years before turning to in vitro fertilization.
Through IVF, the couple welcomed two beautiful children, 4-year-old Luna and 2-year-old Miles. Many people thought their family was complete until last week's surprise announcement. Chrissy appears in John's new music video for his song, "Wild." The end of the video shows John behind her, cradling her bump.
Curious fans asked Chrissy to share the story of how this pregnancy came to be. Just as it took so many of us by surprise, it took the couple by surprise as well. Chrissy revealed that she didn't know she was pregnant when she went under the knife to have her breast implants removed in June. A regular pregnancy test taker, the positive test completely shocked the 34-year-old.
Recently, a fan noted that they were "confused" by the timing of Chrissy Teigen's pregnancy. The fan noted that the 34-year-old underwent surgery to have her breast implants removed earlier this summer. They wondered how she was able to have the surgery if she was already pregnant at the time.
Chrissy, ever the open book, decided to share the story behind pregnancy No. 3 with fans. In a Twitter thread, she opened up about everything.
"I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative," Chrissy revealed.
"A few weeks after surgery, I took a test. And for many years now, I've taken pregnancy tests almost every month, praying to see a positive one day," she shared.
"Just wishful thinking. I never had a positive before."
When Chrissy decided to take her latest test, she was prepared for the usual result:
"So the morning of John's album release, he wakes up at 3 am to do Good Morning America. I woke up with him and was like man, should take my monthly test to be disappointed …"
When she saw the positive result, a thousand thoughts rushed through her head:
"I was not disappointed. But I was scared [expletive]. Was pretty positive you shouldn't get your boobs out while pregnant? Pretty sure."
"So we prayed to the boob surgery gods that everything would be okay," she continued. "Went to every appointment terrified. Even without the surgery, I didn't think I could get pregnant naturally anyway. So the odds just felt…bad."
Although Chrissy has been stressed about this pregnancy and is being very cautious, she is excited about what's to come:
"But what they say so often can be true. When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you. In summary, my boobs hurt."
Chrissy's stress about her pregnancy has also been compounded by the online attacks against her. As the attacks against her rolled in, she grew even more appreciative of all the kind people who have had her back throughout the years:
"Also, you guys have seen how rough these past few months were for me here. So now you know why I just extra appreciated all the love and support through it all, especially since you didn't even know. You just thought I was in stressful internet hell."
Chrissy hopes that her story resonates with women who have turned to IVF.
"I hope this gives anyone out there some hope. IVF was an amazing choice for us to be able to make. So hard, but we got two beautiful monsters out of it," she said.
"I promise you, I never ever ever ever ever thought I could."
She also admitted that this pregnancy has filled her with more concern than the others because of all the unknowns. "And I'm still very worried. Part of me misses the safety of my perfect embryos, created in their little dish," she said.
"They felt untouchable and safe. Now I feel a bit … eggshelly."
While Chrissy and John are over the moon about the news, their little ones are split on how they feel. "Luna is very, very excited," Chrissy shared.
"Miles, not so much. Jealous!"
