Learning from a doctor that you’re going to have twins is emotionally laden news.
You can feel both overjoyed and petrified by the prospect of being responsible for not just one, but two tiny and delicate lives.
Receiving this kind of information is enough to make anyone’s head spin, but I can’t even fathom what it would be like to then be told that your new twins are also conjoined.
Conjoined twins are identical twins who are physically joined in utero. It is somewhat of a rare phenomenon and happens only once in every 189,000 births. Approximately half of those births are stillborn, so every pair of conjoined twins that make it out of the womb alive is a miracle.
Yet, being attached to your sibling can lead to a very complicated life, emotionally and physically, and if conjoined twins can be separated safely, it’s a better option for both individuals.
Two conjoined baby boys, united at the groin, were recently born in Saudi Arabia. Doctors wanted to give these two precious infants a chance at a normal life, so they underwent a stressful nine-hour operation and the results are as astonishing.

Meet Abdullah and Abdulrahman. These two adorable baby boys were joined at the stomach and shared a single bellybutton.

When the twins arrived at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia it was quickly discovered the twins shared many organs, including the intestines.

“The bowels needed to be separated as well as their urinary systems and then the pelvic bones,” said a hospital spokesman.

After seeing their condition, the surgeons originally gave the twins a 60 to 70 percent chance of survival.

Yet, after a grueling nine-hour surgery led by the country's former Health Minister, the twins were successfully separated.

Their bowels, urinary systems, and then the pelvic bones were separated. Once they were split up, two different teams of doctors worked on each little boy.

The procedure was very successful and both babies are expected to survive the operation. They are currently being cared for in the pediatric intensive care unit at the hospital.

This separation is the 35th performed on conjoined twins in the country since 1990.
