Nicole Ziesemer woke her husband up at 12:30 in the morning. She was pregnant with their first child, and her water had just broke — nearly five weeks early.
Thirty hours of pushing and screaming turned into four more hours. Then another three. It was painful and exhausting, and Nicole and Matthew hoped the birthing process would be as natural as possible.
Baby Blakeley was born at 4 lbs., 4 oz. Nicole thought the hardest part was over and that she could finally relax — but little did she know she was about to do it all over again.
When the doctor went to check on Nicole, she looked down and realized there was another head.

Much to everyone's surprise, there was a second baby! Nicole and Matthew (and their doctors and nurses) had absolutely no idea she'd been carrying twins!
"It was just a shell-shocker, because no one was expecting it," Nicole said. "Everyone in the room thought they had seen a ghost."
That's when "all hell broke loose," as Matthew said. The entire floor of medics rushed into Nicole's room at once.
