Fred And Ben Savage Get Nostalgic About Time As Child Actors And Tease Working Together

A lot of sibling duos have entered and exited Hollywood over the years, but none have captured our hearts quite like the Savage brothers.

Fred Savage came to stardom in the late 1980s with his role as Kevin Arnold on The Wonder Years. In 1989, he was joined in Little Monsters by little brother Ben Savage. Ben came into his own career in the early '90s with Boy Meets World. Today, they're both still beloved by so many of their childhood fans.

The brothers recently talked to Good Morning America about their careers and working together as adults.

Ben Savage remembers fondly being a kid and attending award shows with his family. Ben and sister Kala, along with their parents, would cheer on Fred as he started being recognized for his role as Kevin Arnold on The Wonder Years.

"I remember as a kid it was so much fun for my sister and I, because we kind of got to go to these fun award shows and we'd be there as guests," Ben recalled.

"It was just so fun to dress up, and especially to be able to share these kind of moments with your family," Fred recalled of the time.

Ben remembered wanting to have those kinds of moments for himself, too.

"I think you could say it was motivating," he said of watching his brother's star rise.

"I think you could say it was exciting. I mean, I really did grow up on the set of Fred's shows and projects. And I got to do some really fun projects as well. It's still just kind of a fun journey and ride."

Both Ben and Fred can say they walked away from their biggest roles with some big lessons about life. For Ben, that role was Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World.

"You know, your friends and family and your relationships from a very young age define you and shape you," he shared.

"And who you surround yourself with has ripple effects throughout your life."

"I think that was one of the things people enjoyed about the show, about Boy Meets World," he continued. "These connections and these relationships and this family."

"Cory always followed his heart, in terms of relationships, he certainly went after what he wanted. He was in love with this girl from a young age and he married her. So I think there is a lesson to be said, to lead with your heart."

Of course, Fred learned quite a bit from portraying Kevin Arnold.

"I think from Kevin I learned, you know, the value of friendship," he shared.

"I think that was a big cornerstone of growing up for anyone, is those friends that you have in your adolescence and teen years, I think just shape who you are completely for the rest of your life."

"Sometimes we're lucky enough that those friendships continue on all the way through adulthood, and other times it's just those short years you're in school together," he continued.

"But I think, you know, for all of us looking back on our childhood, those friendships that we had when we were 11, 12, 13 years old, are some of the purest, most wholesome relationships we'll ever have in our lives."

Ben and Fred have gotten to work together a few different times, and they've cherished them.

"It's a rare opportunity to get to work with family in this business, and I think it's exciting," he said.

"It's also that there's a level of comfort, that you know the job is going to be done very well and you can trust the person. Trust your collaborators, trust the people you're with, not the least of which is my brother."

"Obviously you trust your family, you trust your brother, more than anyone in the world," Ben continued.

"And to kind of build that out, you know, I'm not always on my brother's show. But this idea of trusting the people that you're with really started there and has carried me through."

The brothers recently teamed up for a Goldfish commercial, which has opened the door to possibly working together in the future.

"This Goldfish reunion is the first time that Ben and I have worked together in front of the camera since, I don't know, I was like 11 years old when we were doing Little Monsters," Fred told Pop Culture.

"So this is definitely cause for celebration, a special occasion."
