Listen up, all you ghouls and goblins, spooky season is upon us. Time for all things pumpkin and Halloween. For many parents, this means organizing their kids' costumes. Actress Gabrielle Union is on top of it.
She took to Instagram to post an adorable video of her daughter, 3-year-old Kaavia James Union Wade, in her Halloween costume. Kaavia is going as Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She was inspired by the new live-action remake starring Halle Bailey.
Gabrielle wrote on Instagram, "You know we had to set off Halloween season right. May I present 'Ariel & Her Sea Legs' for awards consideration. #RepresentationMatters #StayMadJan S/O to @chelsea.union for making this perfect costume! #LittleMermaidReaction #mermaidtiktok."
Ariel herself responded. Halle commented, “omg love it !" Halle has been vocal about how much it means to her to see young Black girls excited for the upcoming movie.
Mom Gabrielle doubled down on her daughter’s love of Halle’s Little Mermaid. She responded to Halle’s comment, saying, "I told you at the party Kaav was OBSESSED!!! Thank you for shining so bright my ."
Kaavia is one of many young Black girls who are excited about the new live-action Little Mermaid movie. Since the teaser trailer dropped, many viral videos have flooded the internet showing young Black girls reacting to Halle’s Ariel. They are heartwarming and show the power of representation.
Halle has been overwhelmed by these videos. She admitted that "seeing these little babies' reactions makes me so emotional." She is proud to play a part in their empowerment journeys.
Halle spoke about this to People magazine. She said, "The fact that now it's getting to be played by me, a person who looks like me, woman of color, I'm just like, wow, I'm so grateful what it will do for all the other little Black and brown boys and girls who will see themselves in me.”
Halle takes her responsibility as a role model very seriously. She is so proud to be making a positive impact on the world. She went on to say, "Because I know if I had seen myself when I was younger, I think my whole perspective would've changed."
Halle has certainly reached Gabrielle's daughter, Kaavia. Gabrielle shares Kaavia with husband Dwyane Wade. Besides Kaavia, Dwyane has three other children from previous relationships: sons Zaire, 20, and Xavier, 8, and daughter Zaya, 15. Dwyane is also the legal guardian of his nephew, 20-year-old Dahveon Morris.
