This Grandpa Couldn’t Afford A Fancy Boat. What He Built Instead? This Is GENIUS!

You’ve likely seen your fair share of styled and swanky cruisers decked out with fridges, plush seating, and whatever else they’re sticking in glorified boats these days.

But I can say with near absolute certainty that you’ve never seen one like this.

Peter Thurston, 81, describes the quasi-cruiser he built as a sort of workaround to avoid the costly price of motorboats. Instead of allocating funds toward a newer version, he simply built one out of items he already had available, namely a caravan and raft. Stick two motors on each end, he says, and you have full control of the invention's mobility. The best part? It comes fully equipped with a kitchenette, a full bathroom, and plenty of room to sit comfortably.

The craziest thing is that he built the thing from his mind. No blueprints or Googling tricks to assemble what he calls a “CATAMAVAN.”

This reminds us of some of the other incredible floating homes that we’ve posted about in the past. It seems to me as though all these boating entrepreneurs may just be on to something. It might be time to reassess that whole "traditional housing" thing…

Were you wowed by this man’s craftiness in building the boat of his dreams? Let us know in the comments if so, (We sure were!)
