Robert De Niro's grandson has died at the age of 19. Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez is the son of Robert's daughter, Drena De Niro. She made a sentimental post on her Instagram on Sunday night.
"My beautiful sweet angel," she started off. "I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you."
She continued, "I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama. You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you ."
"I’m so sorry my baby, I’m so sorry @carlosmare . Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy ," she concluded the post.
Many fans shared their condolences.
"Dearest Drena, sending my deepest condolences to you and the family," singer Lenny Kravitz commented. "This is all beyond words at the moment. I love you …."
Another person shared: "Heartbroken devastated my heart arms and prayers are open to you. Silence and love."
The father of Leandro, artist Carlos Mare, shared a blank, black photo on his Instagram page. More fans poured out their love and support.
"So incredible sorry to hear of your loss," someone shared. "Can’t imagine the pain you must be in. May your light shine through this dark stage in life. ."
Drena did not give more details on her son's cause of death. As far as we know, police had received a 911 call around 2:23 p.m. on Saturday. An NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information spokesperson shared with People that "an 18-year-old male was found unconscious, unresponsive and was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene."
In a statement to Good Morning America, Robert shared: "I'm deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We're greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo."
His mother also shared a statement with the platform. "It is with immeasurable shock and and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we are given privacy at this time to process this inconsolable grief."
