Longtime married couple Melanie and Drew Brooks had been trying to have a child together for years. Unfortunately, every time they seemed to be that much closer to realizing their dream of becoming parents, they would experience another tragic pregnancy loss.
Drew tried to convince his wife that they didn’t need to conceive a baby themselves in order to become parents, as there was always adoption. Melanie was determined, though, and told her husband that she was desperate to experience what it felt like to grow a baby inside of her and feel that love and warmth.
Melanie was a bit superstitious and found herself convinced that their house was bad luck. The couple decided to move to a beautiful new home and start over in hopes of finally having a baby.
When the couple were packing up their belongings in their old home prior to moving, Melanie suddenly felt a wave of nausea hit her. She soon took a pregnancy test and discovered that she was indeed pregnant again.
The couple were cautiously optimistic. Unfortunately, 19 weeks into her pregnancy, Melanie felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, which resulted in her fourth miscarriage. After she was released from the hospital, Melanie sunk into a deep depression, to the point where she didn’t want anyone to visit them at their new home.
One morning shortly after her miscarriage, Melanie was awoken by what sounded like children laughing and playing on the swing set in her backyard. When she got up to take a look, no one was there.
She wondered if she was experiencing some kind of grief hallucination, but for several mornings in a row she heard that same sound coming from her backyard, and it seemed all too real.
