David Bowie died in 2016, and his wife Iman has said that grief is not something that just goes away. Instead, "It comes, it goes. It changes to other things," she explained to Today earlier in 2023. She thinks about her husband all the time and maintains that he is not her "late husband"; he's her husband.
Iman and David Bowie were married for 23 years and had one child together: Alexandria Zahra Jones, 23. “Don’t call my husband 'late.' He’s not my late husband. He’s my husband and he’ll always be," she said in 2022.
The Somali–American model and actress has said that she thinks of David Bowie "all the time" and remembering the positive moments they shared together helps her deal with the grief. "But wasn’t it great that he was here? And that I was with him,'" she reminds herself when she's sad about losing him, according to Today. In late November, she posted about David Bowie on Instagram.
Sharing a series of images of them together, she wrote, "Can you hear me? Can you feel me inside? #EternalLove #BowieForever." In 2018, she told Porter Edit that she does not plan to get married again. "He is always going to be my husband," she said at the time.
When making an appearance on Today in 2023, Iman wore a necklace with Bowie's name on it.

She revealed that she wears the necklace all the time. "It’s part of me. I don’t take if off, even when I’m showering."
She admitted to Today that the kind of love she shared with David was the kind of love you experience "if you're lucky." "If there is an afterlife, I’d like to see my husband again," she shared.
