Injured Officer Can’t Bring Son To First Day Of School, So Entire Police Department Steps In

Two months ago, an Orlando police officer was shot in the head while responding to a domestic violence call. Officer Kevin Valencia remains in intensive care and is currently in a coma. While Kevin's loved ones continue to pray for his recovery, his police colleagues are stepping up to fulfill some of his duties.

Kevin and his wife, Meghan, have two small children together. Last week, their son Kaleb, 5, attended his first day of kindergarten. Since his dad couldn't be there with him, Kaleb was escorted to school by his father's entire police squad.

Over a dozen officers escorted little Kaleb to school and were there to cheer him on as he entered his very first classroom. Together with Meghan, they walked him into school and watched from the door to make sure he settled in.

Kaleb showed up on his first day of school wearing a Batman backpack and carrying his lunch.

Kevin and his wife, Meghan, have two children: 5-year-old Kaleb and 10-month-old Kolton.

Last week, it was Kaleb's first day of kindergarten. Since his dad couldn't be there to send him off, Kevin's entire police squad showed up instead.

Before going inside, Kaleb high-fived the officers and showed off his Batman backpack.

Chief John Mina and over a dozen police officers walked with Kaleb into the school building.

They paused outside the school so Meghan could give Kaleb a big kiss.

After saying goodbye to his mom, Kaleb turned to enter the school.

He looked excited for his first day of school. How many kids can say that an entire police squad escorted them to kindergarten?

Meghan and Chief John watched Kaleb through the classroom window to make sure he was settling in well.
