Kate Middleton Had To Explain Her Cancer Diagnosis To Her Kids In A Way They’d Understand

Kate Middleton's recent news of her cancer diagnosis came as a shock across the entire world, but there was another end to her opening up about her condition: having to break the news to her children. She says she didn't rush when it came to telling them. The Prince and Princess of Wales have their 10-year-old son Prince George, 8-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte, and 5-year-old son Prince Louis.

“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she said in a video released on March 22, 2024.

“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK," she continued. “William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

She strategically planned her public statement on that Friday because it's when Easter break began for her children, and she wanted to give them time to process the news away from their classmates. "As I have said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal," Kate said.

She added that Prince William has been a huge support during this time. "Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance, too," the Princess of Wales said. "As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both."
