People seem to be really torn over how the royal family has treated Meghan Markle. Some people believe Meghan should have worked harder to simply fall in line with tradition, while others feel she was right to stand up for herself and her family.
Now a cousin of King Charles III is speaking out about how cruel the family really has been to Meghan, though she says it's not exactly out of the norm.
According to Christina Oxenberg, a descendant of Serbian royalty who counts King Charles III as a third cousin, the British royals have a long and unsettling history of hazing women who are dating, or end up marrying, men in the family.
She told the New York Post that only women who are "tough as nails" can survive the heinous treatment. While few, if any, in the family have acknowledged that Meghan has been put through a lot, those words are certainly impactful. She even offered some words of encouragement to Meghan.
“To Meghan Markle, I say, ‘What you are going through is a hellish kind of hazing,'” Christina Oxenberg continued. “If she can just hang in there, someone else will come along who can take the heat. Nobody gets a pass.” She even said that that includes Kate Middleton.
The writer and fashion designer recalled how Kate was spoken about when she first began dating William. “They thought it was all very funny — Kate Middle Class and Sarah Ferguson and Koo Stark,” she said. “They meant no disrespect; after all, she is the future queen of England.”
Still, this week there have been many rumors of the royal family being incredibly cold to Meghan during the services for the late queen. Many outlets reported that Kate Middleton didn't speak to Meghan over the entire 10-day period of mourning.
