‘Doctors Of The World’ Launches #MakeAChildCry Campaign

In 2013, CBS reported that a staggering 216 million children had passed away before their fifth birthdays since 1990. Most of these cases were the result of preventable afflictions — pneumonia, malaria, and diarrhea were the greatest perpetrators in claiming these young lives.

While CBS points out that the number of under-5 deaths annually has nearly halved since 1990, there is still a long way to go in terms of education about the preventative health threats imposed on our children when their immune systems aren't properly equipped to combat diseases like polio and measles — conditions that are easily prevented with simple vaccines. They protect not only our children, but the children of others as well.

Doctors of the World UK is attempting to raise awareness about this important issue — one echoed by mothers worldwide whose children have fallen prey to these terrifying and very much preventable diseases.

On the Doctors of the World UK Facebook page, their mission is clear:

“One child dies every 7 seconds due to lack of medical care. That’s 4 million children a year who die from preventable diseases. A simple gesture can save their lives. Help us #MakeAChildCry”
