If you had the opportunity to have one wish granted, what would it be? Would you use it for yourself, or to benefit others?A 12-year-old boy was faced with that very predicament recently, and his answer is an inspiring testament to selflessness and compassion.
Lucas Hobbs of Eagan, Minnesota hasn't had an easy childhood — he's battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. But when approached by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he didn't ask to meet an idol or for a trip to a faraway destination. Instead, Lucas — a self-described foodie — asked his parents if he could start a food truck with the intention of giving back to five groups in his community: a police precinct, his church community, a children's hospital, a senior center, and a homeless shelter.
"When I was sick, people brought me food from our church, and it was really nice of them," Hobbs told CBS News Minnesota. "It kinda got me thinking about my Make a Wish, so I asked my parents if I could use my wish to help others."
And his selfless act of charity didn't go unthanked by local police officers, who were among the first in line for his finger-lickin' good mac 'n' cheese sandwiches. Their video below is an homage to his kindness. "We get some people saying they appreciate what we do, but nothing like this by adults," Officer Miquel Barnes of the MPD told CBS. "Let alone a kid."
