Stacey Faix was only 15 when she got pregnant. Not ready or equipped to be a mother, she made the painstaking decision to place the newborn baby boy for adoption. Stacey said goodbye without ever getting to hold him.

The baby's birth records eventually got lost in a flood. Years later, in November 2017, a new law went into effect that would change everything for Stacey — only she didn't know it at the time. This policy allowed adoptees to obtain birth certificates containing the names of their original birth parents.
The following year, Stacey arrived at the Pittsburgh Half Marathon. She was there to run alongside her fellow members of Team Red, White, and Blue, a social organization that supports veterans.
Before the marathon kicked off, as Stacey and her family stood at the starting line, she was handed a mysterious handwritten letter.
"It's been 13,075 days since you last saw me," it read. "I didn't want to make you wait one more."
