Mary-Kate Olsen Officially Files For Divorce From Olivier Sarkozy The Day NYC Courts Reopen

Mary-Kate Olsen has been in a huge hurry to get divorced from her husband, Olivier Sarkozy. But with courts being closed, she wasn't able to file quite as quickly as she wanted to. She seemed a bit desperate to get out of her current living situation, though, and had been making efforts to try to expedite the process. Now she has reportedly officially filed for divorce from her husband of four and a half years.

According to court records first obtained by Page Six, Mary-Kate filed for divorce with the New York County Supreme Court on Monday. It was the very first day New York City courts reopened after an extended closure. Last week, it was announced that the electronic filing system in New York City's courts would reopen on Memorial Day to accept new lawsuits and divorce filings. Mary-Kate definitely didn't waste any time at all filing for her divorce, leading to reports that things have taken a turn for the contentious between the once-happy couple.

Mary-Kate is clearly ready to move on from her marriage. But the process has been tough thus far. She's been trying for several weeks to hurry up and file for divorce. It seems things may have gotten ugly between Mary-Kate and her now estranged husband, Olivier Sarkozy, and pretty quickly.

Mary-Kate had to wait for the courts to open back up in order to file. Previously, she had requested an emergency order to file for divorce from Olivier on May 13, according to court documents. But that order was dismissed by a New York City judge, who clearly didn't feel that the situation was a true emergency.

But Mary-Kate said she was concerned because she may not have a place to live, and that given the current circumstances, she wouldn't be able to rent a new apartment. She was also worried she may lose belongings in their shared apartment. Still, the court filing was denied on the basis that her request was not "essential."

Of course, that doesn't mean that the situation wasn't uncomfortable for Mary-Kate. She seemed desperate to get out of her living situation.

Many details have come out recently regarding the circumstances that led to the couple's demise, and it's not all that pretty. The couple has been together for a long time. They were married back in 2015. But sources say there was a lot they didn't agree on, and those issues only got bigger and harder to ignore over time.

According to a source, one of the main issues present was that the couple argued over whether or not to have children. Olivier, who has two grown children with ex-wife Charlotte Bernard, didn't want to have any more kids. Mary-Kate reportedly has a strong and ever-growing desire to be a mother. It seems she may have thought her husband would eventually change his mind, but that never happened.

"Olivier has two grown kids and doesn't want more," a fashion source told People. "Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn't.” It's not that uncommon of an argument — especially given the two have a pretty drastic age difference. Perhaps Mary-Kate has done a lot of growing up and realized that her husband not wanting kids was an absolute deal breaker.

Other sources have said that the two are just very different people. And honestly, those sources don't make Olivier sound like the most supportive husband in the world. He reportedly didn't understand Mary-Kate's strong work ethic, which seems like yet another deal breaker. If he couldn't get behind her passions, chances are it would never have worked out in the long run.

"Mary-Kate is extremely hard working and focused on her business. Her work schedule is beyond disciplined," a source told People"She is the type of person who would never complain about a 12 hour work day. Olivier never understood her drive and passion. He would have loved to have a stay-at-home wife."

Divorces can get ugly, but getting divorced when you're in the public eye and have gobs of money is another story entirely. The more assets there are, the more there tends to be to argue about. So chances are, we're going to be hearing a lot more about what happens next.

Hopefully, now that Mary-Kate has filed, the divorce process will start to move a little more smoothly for her. We'll have to wait and see what happens next. Either way, we're sure Mary-Kate will be just fine running her successful businesses and getting on with her postmarital life.
