Meghan Markle was “taught to feel guilty about having money.” In the latest episode of her podcast, the Duchess of Sussex said that women “are even taught not to talk about money and that there is a lot of guilt when you have a lot of money.” She added that at the same time, there is a mentality that people believe that “they will never have enough.”
Speaking on the Confessions of a Female Founder podcast with Spanx founder Sara Blakely, Meghan said that many female entrepreneurs “can’t accept the fact of wanting more for themselves and their financial freedom.” Meghan added that she would like to adopt the mentality of her guest, that of not feeling guilty about earnings or success.
The Spanx founder, who recently ventured into footwear with her new business Sneex, said: “I always say, especially to women, that money is a lot of fun to make, a lot of fun to spend and a lot of fun to give away. And I think money makes you even more of who you already were.” It amplifies people’s qualities or defects: “It’s like putting a magnifying glass on you, but it doesn’t create anything terrible.”
