6-Year-Old Is At A Loss For Words Over Military Dad’s Return

A New Hampshire first-grader had a day at school that he’ll probably never forget.

Declan Osborne was sitting with the rest of his classmates at the Pembroke Village School in Suncook, NH, expecting a special guest reader to walk through their classroom door.

But instead, it was Declan’s dad, Sgt. Dana Osborne, who showed up to class that day, pulling off the same epic surprise as Spc. Nathan Getty, who unexpectedly popped up to see his little one at school.

“The school here has been very supportive of my deployment and with Declan, so we just thought it would be a great idea to do it here,” the National Guardsman told New Hampshire’s WMUR.

While Sgt. Osborne thought his son would yell upon seeing him, the little boy appeared more stunned than anything else. It's understandable, since it had been almost a year since he last saw him. It was clear, however, that little Declan didn’t want to let his dad go. (And make sure to pay attention to what Declan’s classmate did in the meantime!)

Declan also got to leave class early that day in order to spend some quality time with the serviceman, who noticed some changes.

"He's much taller, much more grown up," Sgt. Osborne said. "Still handsome, though."
