Charnee Merritt found herself in a bind during her recent visit to New York. While she was staying with her 8-year-old son, Israel, at the Ronald McDonald House in New York City, where he receives treatment for a type of cancer called neuroblastoma, she came outside to discover her car had been towed.
Panicked, Merritt called the 19th Precinct, and NYPD officer P.J Conley answered the phone.
"She tells me her car got towed and her son was here getting treated, it broke my heart so I tried to make some calls to Pier 76 to see if they would help us out a little to no avail," Conley told Pix11.
This police officer decided to go above and beyond call of duty to help family in need — just like this cop who danced with a lonely little girl, or this one who changed the life of a McDonald’s employee.
Taking matters into his own hands, the officer came directly to the Ronald McDonald House and gave Merritt the $185 to retrieve her car and paid for an Uber to get her to the impound.
"We just thank God for people like him," Meritt said. "I would love to one day pay it forward to a cancer family."
Merritt and her son are originally from Ohio but have been in New York for treatments since October.
