From the weird world of rodeos and side-shows, comes a sport I had no idea even existed… and I think most people are with me, because this is unbelievably wacky! What are these people thinking?!
Originally created as a quick show in-between bronco rides, mutton busting is an event where kids ride on top of sheep. Essentially, its a mini version of bull riding for tots, since kids hold on tight for as long as they can, while the sheep try to knock them down. It usually only lasts a few seconds, but I can see these kids, usually aged 4-7, getting seriously hurt… as well as the poor sheep?! Apparently, the majority of the sheep used for mutton busting are bred for sheep and their meat, so they're actually being saved in a way. Also, although kids do get hurt, they volunteer to participate, so no one is to blame. It's definitely interesting to watch, but I'm still shocked people in the U.S. do this.
