Everyone knows that comedic trope about men forgetting birthdays and anniversaries. In these scenarios, women are often infuriated and huffy about the transgression and demand that it be made up to them. One Twitter user's boyfriend found himself in a modern variation of this situation when celebrating his girlfriend's birthday, and luckily everyone had a good sense of humor about it.
Laura McKay and Ryan Smith have been dating for a few years. Ryan likes to take Laura on an overnight trip for her birthday each year, revealing the location of their quick getaway in her birthday card. The last two years, Ryan's birthday cards for Laura have been late, forcing him to reveal the location himself.
Laura has probably teased him a bit about this over the years, because as her most recent birthday drew near, Ryan boasted about how wonderful his birthday card was going to be. He almost got it perfect, but a critical mistake turned into a huge laugh for Laura, who took to Twitter to share the story.
Laura McKay was excited to celebrate her 19th birthday with her boyfriend, Ryan Smith.
Ryan has had a tough time getting birthday cards to Laura on time the last two years, but this year he was convinced he hit it out of the park.
Ryan created a beautiful photo collage with all of Laura's favorite pictures of the two of them. He made the card for Laura on Moonpig, using a template.
Unfortunately, Ryan forgot to change one kind of important detail in the card before ordering it: the name.
That's how Laura ended up on Twitter, sharing the hysterical tale of receiving an almost-perfect birthday card with photos of her but addressed to someone named Georgia.
Despite her profane Twitter rant, she did appreciate her boyfriend's attempts. She told Mirror UK, "He does try his best with absolutely everything but sometimes his lack of common sense gets in the way."
Things got even funnier in Laura's replies as several people came forward to say they got the same card from someone in their lives and that they too forgot to change the name!
Rob was also decidedly not Georgia.
Amber's boyfriend tried really hard, too, but alas, she is not Georgia.
As the stories rolled in, people couldn't help but laugh at how common the mistake was.
Sometimes the best intentions can manage to fall flat.
All of the not-Georigas of the internet came together to have a good laugh about the card.
A few other people shared other cards where over-eager gifters forgot to change the names.
Ryan did take a moment to defend himself and his good intentions, although Laura has already acknowledged that the card is a keepsake she'll always treasure.
It's great that they found the humor in the situation and turned it into another wonderful, hilarious memory. Happy belated birthday, Laura!
