Some stories seem so tragic that it may seem difficult to find the light in the situation.
This video story posted by Plot! on YouTube shares the story of a mother who died during childbirth and whose husband did something incredible that ultimately changed everything.
Doug and Melanie Pritchard were thrilled when they learned that their family of three was soon going to be complete with a baby girl. Most nights, Doug and his son would take turns at Melanie’s belly waiting to feel a kick.
During her 39th week, Melanie began experiencing mild contractions, and when they took her to the hospital, doctors ended up breaking her water to induce labor, according to the Herald-Times. That was when things took a turn for the worse.
Melanie began experiencing dizziness, nausea, and weakness. She suddenly closed her eyes and collapsed. Her heart rate slowed right down, and her blood pressure dipped to zero. The medical staff then saw Melanie turn blue as she could no longer breathe. To make matters even worse, the baby’s vital signs began to drop.
The medical team acted fast, and through some scans, they discovered that Melanie was suffering from an amniotic fluid embolism. It was a rare allergic reaction in which amniotic fluid enters the mother’s bloodstream, causing the heart and lungs to shut down.
While they were in the operating room, Melanie was pronounced dead due to a barely there pulse as doctors tried to save the baby.
When they gave Doug the news, he immediately took to prayer and quickly spread the word among his family, friends, and social media circle. He wanted everyone he knew to send their family positive and healing thoughts in hopes of saving Melanie and their baby.
