5-Year-Old Girl Has A Safety Pin Stuck In Her Nose For Six Months

It’s not uncommon for children to put things where they don’t belong, even if that means in their mouth, nose, and ears.

We've seen the horror from the young boy who swallowed a button battery, which can cause severe damage to a person's food pipe and even lead to a life-threatening infection.

Every year, there are approximately 80,000 reported cases of people under 19 years old swallowing foreign objects in the United States, according to the Encyclopedia of Children’s Health.

"This is how children investigate their environment," Dr. Jonathan Powell told the Chicago Tribune. "When they are babies, they stick everything in their mouth. As they get a little older, they try other places. It's very common."

This is an incident Katelyn Powell and her daughter, Khloe, know all too well. The 5-year-old suffered from a runny nose for six months. Powell assumed it was a symptom of the common cold until her daughter’s discharge began to expel a very bad smell. Doctors wrote it off as a sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics that didn't cure the issue.

But, the mystery came to an end when Khloe blew her nose one day and out came a terrifying and unexpected object.
