Soldier Meets His Daughter For The First Time After 12-Month Deployment

When I was just about 4 years old, my dad was forced to move away for a few months for his job. During that time, he lost quite a bit of weight so that by the time my mom, brother, and I were finally reunited with him, he was almost unrecognizable. In fact, my mom didn't realize it was her husband I was running toward at full speed as soon as I saw him, which gave her quite a scare!

There's just something about the bond between a father and daughter that goes beyond what others see on the surface. For Sgt. Brandon Cisco of the National Guard's Alpha Company 136th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, the military man feared his baby girl was a tad too young to have that same level of recollection. He had a good reason to worry, though, considering the tot wasn't even born yet when his company was sent on a 12-month deployment overseas.

Thanks to technology like Skype and FaceTime, Sgt. Cisco and his fellow Guardsman and women have been able to stay in close contact with their loved ones while they're away. It isn't quite as nice as being there in person for such significant milestones like the birth of your first child, but it definitely makes being separated for so long slightly easier.

Still, he wasn't sure that seeing an image on a screen would be enough for his cutie to comprehend just yet. Take a look below to see the reaction from his daughter and those around him celebrating their own happy reunions.
