Olivia Millentree was a senior at Pitman High School in Turlock, California in 2021. She walked into class wearing what she thought was a typical outfit for a teenager — but her teacher deemed it too inappropriate for school.
Olivia wore a striped, short-sleeved crop top and leggings, but her teacher said she was "distracting" and instructed her to put on a T-shirt.

When she protested, feeling the request was unfair and sexist, Olivia was given a suspension and told to stay off campus completely.
“Words were exchanged that should not have been exchanged, and I came back at lunch to apologize for my behavior,” Olivia told Fox40.
That's when Olivia claims the school resource officer handcuffed her, right in front of her peers and teachers, and issued her a police report for trespassing.
Frightened and humiliated, Olivia was stunned when she was not only suspended from school but banned from high school graduation.
Many of her classmates rallied behind her in a big way — and the school got ready to make a change to its dress code because of it.
