Prince William At ‘Frightening Proximity’ To Ascending Throne, Tina Brown Says

According to royal expert and journalist Tina Brown, Prince William and Kate Middleton are supposedly facing some anxiety around the possibility of them taking the throne amid King Charles III ongoing cancer battle.

“The almost simultaneous news of Charles’s cancer has put William and Catherine in frightening proximity to ascending the throne just when they had hoped for a span of years to parent their children out of the public eye,” she wrote in a New York Times essay that was published on March 25, 2024.

King Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis in February 2024. A couple of months later, the Princess of Wales also revealed that she'd been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing an abdominal surgery in January.

Tina says that the possibility of ascending the throne is a stressor for the couple, who share three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. “The prospect of it, I am told, is causing them intense anxiety,” she claimed.

She went on to say that certain "scandals" around the royal family have also put "unmanageable pressure" on Prince William and Kate. Some of those seem to include Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s estrangement from the royal family and Prince Andrew’s ties to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

“Catherine is the most popular member of the royal family after William,” Tina wrote. “The future of the monarchy hangs by a thread, and that thread is her.”

She continued that the couple have more responsibilities than just Kate's health. “A tidal wave of premature responsibility is crashing in her and William’s direction,” Tina said. “Frozen, unready and with Catherine now seriously unwell, the Prince and Princess of Wales await the awesome burden of the crown.”

In a video made by Kate, she shared that Prince William has been a great support since her diagnosis. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance, too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

The Princess of Wales supposedly met with King Charles for lunch to talk about their “common health experience” before announcing the news publicly. After the king's diagnosis, a statement shared that he "will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

People shared their thoughts in the comments about the possibility of Prince William taking the throne. "No one knows the future. Pray and live life," one person said."He will not 'snag' the role as King," another person said. "His father will pass away and it will be a painful time for him."
