UPS drivers are usually excellent at delivering packages. But babies? That's a completely different category. Luckily, UPS driver Ryan Thompson handled the task beautifully when he had to help his wife, Gayla, through labor, all on his own.
Ryan was driving Gayla to the hospital, but it seemed as if his baby had other plans. When he realized they wouldn't make it in time, he pulled over on the side of the Tennessee highway he was driving on. From there, he called 911 to get help.
The baby had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. As Ryan saw his son emerge, he realized the baby wasn't breathing or crying.
With the help of the 911 operator, Ryan was able to get his child breathing. So not only did he deliver a baby on the highway, but he saved that baby's life, as well.
"I’ve delivered a lot of things, never in my life would I have thought my child would be one of them," Ryan said to Inside Edition. The couple named their new son Carson. Little does Carson know that he'll probably have the most interesting birth story out of all of his friends.
Based on the recording of the 911 call, Ryan also seemed to keep his calm during the situation. He knew how important this moment was.
Even while talking to the 911 operator about his son's medical issue, Ryan kept calm. While he may have been panicking on the inside, he followed all instructions and was there for his young family.
While Ryan likely wasn't expecting this situation to happen, he proved that in an emergency, anyone can deliver a baby. Watch the video to hear more about Carson's unusual birth.
