The Tindall family is officially a family of five!
Mike Tindall announced during an episode of his podcast, The Good, the Bad & the Rugby, that he and wife Zara Tindall have welcomed their third child.
During his story, he revealed that they welcomed a boy, Lucas Philip Tindall. Lucas is the Queen's 10th great-grandchild.
Mike revealed Zara gave birth at home after an unusual and speedy labor. The unplanned situation was handled surprisingly well by the couple and their midwives. The last royal to be born in a home birth was Prince Edward in 1964.
Mike and Zara are also parents to 7-year-old Mia and 2-year-old Lena. The couple has faced some hard times in growing their family, with Zara experiencing pregnancy loss twice between Mia and Lena.
Zara Tindall is the latest member of the royal family to welcome a little one. The 39-year-old daughter of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips has given birth to her third child, a baby boy. Lucas Philip Tindall was born on March 21, 2020, at 8 lbs., 4 oz.
Her husband, Mike Tindall, shared the news on his podcast, The Good, the Bad & the Rugby. He recapped the weekend's games before announcing, "A little baby boy arrived at my house!"
Mike explained that they were with Zara's friend Dolly Maude. He explained that "fortunately" Dolly "recognized that we wouldn't have got to hospital in time."
"So, it was run into the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, get a mat on the floor, towels down, 'brace-brace-brace,'" Mike told his cohosts.
"Fortunately, the midwife, who was going to meet us at the hospital, wasn't that far away, so she drove up, got there just as we'd assumed the pos-ish," he continued.
"And then the second midwife arrived just after the head had arrived."
Mike explained that 7-year-old Mia and 2-year-old Lena weren't there because Zara (whom he calls Zed) had started feeling something coming about the night before.
"Zed had contractions through the night — she hadn't slept well the night before, so we had someone take the kids for the day," he explained.
The kids got suspicious when they didn't come home on Sunday night, however.
The girls were delighted to meet their little brother on Monday.
"When [Mia] got in, she was over the moon. Both of them were," he said.
"Lena is like 'my baby.' 'No, Lena, it's not your baby,' as she tries to pick it up."
When his cohosts asked how Zara was doing, Mike praised his wife:
"She was a warrior, as always. They always are. We could never judge what a woman has to go through during childbirth so … She was back up. We went for a walk [on Monday] morning with him. All good."
Mike even got to share a special sports moment with Lucas, just hours in. "The best thing about being at home … was as soon as he was wrapped up, it was skin on skin, TV room, golf on."
"'This is what me and you are doing!'" he said he told his son.
"There was actually Bath versus Wigan [rugby] game was on, and then I watched the final day of the golf."
Mike had announced the pregnancy on the show back in December, admitting he might catch grief for it because he didn't run it by Zara first.
"There's a good chance she might just read it," Mike said at the time.
"I'm not going to tell her that I've told you but, shh, keep it (quiet). No one will know. What, 150,000 listeners a week? No one will tell her!"
He was also open about wanting a baby boy: "I'd like a boy this time. I've got two girls. I would like a boy, but I will love it whatever, whether it's a boy or a girl, but please be a boy!"
Lucas' middle name, Philip, is believed to be a tribute to both Prince Philip and Philip Tindall, Mike's father. Lucas Philip is the fifth grandchild of Princess Anne. He is also the 10th great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, who released a statement celebrating his birth:
"The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news and look forward to meeting their 10th Great Grandchild when circumstances allow."
