One of the most incredible ways that people are able to pay tribute to America in their own, unique manner is with patriotic DIY projects.
There are a seemingly infinite number of ways to honor our great nation with creative DIY ideas, like this incredible American flag on an 18th-century barn.
So, naturally, when I spotted what this DIY-er was doing in his workshop, I was totally impressed.
I found this incredible project on Imgur from user Mutantninjaterp12. This brilliant DIY-er takes old, useless pallets and transforms them into one of the most patriotic undertakings I've seen in years.
Not only is this idea original, but it involves one of my absolute favorite DIY techniques: upcycling!
Scroll through below to see exactly how this craftsman was able to turn something old into something spectacular.

This amazing upcycle project started with the old wood from several leftover pallets. The DIY-er removed the boards for repurposing.
The craftsman then thoroughly cleaned the boards before putting them to use. He writes, 'I use bleach and detergent. I don't have a power washer, so I resort to some elbow grease and [a] scrubbing brush.'
With his now-clean pallet wood, he decided to make a variety of different patriotic flags, including American flags and state flags.
In order to make a Maryland state flag, he sanded the wood thoroughly to 'bring out the grain and get rid of the rough surface.' He then cut out pieces to lay on top of his flag using stencils, plywood, and a jigsaw.
Using lots of painter's tape, he painted the crosses and stripes that the Maryland flag is well-known for.
He then painted the background of the pallet flag, which he refers to as 'pre-distressed.'
The distressing process involved using a sander and some wood finish stain to get that much-desired rustic and weathered appearance.
He writes, 'After all the components have had time to dry, it comes time to secure them to the back.' For this, he used wood glue and wood screws to keep the three-dimensional parts in place.
The finished products are three very impressive Maryland state pallet flags, ready to be hung or sold as patriotic pieces of art.
Even more patriotic, perhaps, are his pallet American flags, complete with three-dimensional wooden stars.
His distressed pallet Texas state flag is also quite impressive with its single 'Lone Star.'
Slightly more elaborate is the woodworking that went into this 'Don't Tread on Me' flag with a raised snake and letters.
This DIY-er truly has the capability of making some of the most impressive and patriotic art I have ever seen. His pallet flags would be an amazing addition to any home.
