When it comes to houses, I'm what some might consider a "traditionalist." Give me a brick colonial with a little yard, cute shutters, and a white picket fence and I'll be a very happy camper.
But sometimes you come across a house that's so unique and so shockingly different that you can't help but stop and say, "Whoa." That's exactly the reaction this particular house elicited from me.
Though I don't think I'd ever live here, I really admire the imagination and creativity required to come up with something like this. I don't know how they came up with this design, but it's definitely something to be proud of!
After scrolling through these stunning photos, be sure to watch the video below. It gives you a great in-depth tour of the house.

At first glance, they might look like strange alien structures — but really, these "pods" make up a home that was built in 1971.

Though they were originally modeled after the clusters of Queen Anne's Lace, they were mistaken for mushrooms — so the nickname "Mushroom House" caught on and stuck.

In certain areas, like the spacious patio, the house might not seem all that strange...

But step inside and you'll quickly learn just how unique this home truly is!

Designed and built by six different artists, this house is certainly an imaginative feast for the eyes.

The home's pods are like something from a dream. Even the support beams have been made into works of art.

All around the house, mahogany accents and hand-tiled mosaics can be found.

The spacious windows stare into the surrounding woods, bringing the great outdoors right inside.

Solid mahogany bookshelves, desks, and window frames are built right into the pod walls.

Each of the four pods weighs a shocking 80 tons. Today, it would cost over $4.5 million!

Connecting the pods is a long, hand-tiled mosaic tunnel.

The adjoining pod was recently renovated, and so it has a much different vibe than the other sections of the house. I love that mahogany sculpture in the back!

Outside, a mosaic fountain trickles soothingly.

More mosaic can be found surrounding the built-in hot tub, and around the mouth of one pod's entrance.

The detail found in these gorgeous pieces is truly amazing. It must have taken hours to complete.

The true mosaic masterpiece can be found in this very unique gas fireplace. I can only imagine how beautifully the fire reflects off this colorful glass.
