18-Year-Old Las Vegas Student Suffers Cardiac Arrest And Dies After Gym Class

A family is mourning and has been left with questions after their 18-year-old son died. The high school student apparently suffered cardiac arrest while at school.

Just after gym class, Jordan Brister was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of Amplus Academy in Las Vegas.

He died Sunday, five days after the incident, according to a statement by the school shared by NBC affiliate KSNV.

The student's death is tremendously sad, but what's worse is that his family is now desperate for answers as to how a healthy teenager could die in this way. Apparently, by the time he was found, there was nothing that could have been done to save his life.

The school said that “emergency medical attention” was provided until paramedics arrived on the scene.

Lacie Cowley, who is a friend of Brister's family, set up a GoFundMe page on their behalf. "Words cannot express what the Brister family is going through and there will never be enough answers as to why this has happened," she wrote. "He was an amazing kid who loved life to the fullest."

The cause of death is under investigation.
