While sailing along the sea of Cortez off the coast of Mexico, a wildlife photographer and his family came across a humpback whale floating in the water. The whale wasn't moving, and initially they thought maybe she was dead. But once they investigated further, they realized that she was badly tangled in yards and yards of fishing line.
Working quickly, the group tried to free the whale, never giving up, even when she struggled and swam with the boat for miles. Eventually, their hard work paid off, and the whale was freed!
The best part about this rescue is at the end – the whale seems so happy to free, that she spends almost an hour jumping out of the water and playing, all within distance of the boat and the people who saved her! It really makes it seem like she wants them to know she's so thankful for their help! Maybe animals really do understand much more than we give them credit for!
