Her son Daniel died of an accidental drug overdose in 2006. Her daughter Dannielynn Birkhead is now 17 years old and looks just like her late mom.
On May 4, 2024, Dannielynn attended the Kentucky Derby with dad Larry Birkhead. The father-daughter duo saw Mystik Dan win in a photo finish. This is not the first time the pair have attended the race. It appears to be a tradition of sorts.
Dannielynn looked beautiful at the event in a floor-length dress with red ruffle details. Of course, she had to accessorize with a hat for the derby. Hers was floral and red to match her dress. Dad also looked dapper in a gray suit with a pink, purple, and red tie to coordinate with his daughter’s look.
Larry took to Instagram to mark the special occasion. He posted a carousel of pictures to commemorate the day. “On the way to @kentuckyderby with Dannielynn after a great night at the Barnstable-Brown Gala and quick morning haircut or two,” his caption began.

“Dannielynn’s dress was inspired by her favorite character Hino Eiji, Kamen Rider OOO TaJaDor combo -she made me write that -because that character had the same shoulders as the design of the dress she found ! ♂️,” he went on to explain. “Hey whatever works, just trying to spend a little quality time as this weekend of traditions come to a close.” Larry might not understand his daughter’s fashion choices but he makes an effort, which is all that matters.
