Dentists Call Out Bad Teeth Whitening And Straightening Hacks Popular On Social Media

Whatever happened to the days when, if we needed advice about our dental hygiene, we would seek out the guidance and care of our nice local dentist? Well, the internet and social media culture came and set the world on fire, that’s what happened.

There are so many cool things to find on TikTok. You can find a million and one hacks on everything from organizing your closet to unique air fryer foods, but dental experts are practically begging individuals to stop trying the dangerous teeth straightening and whitening “hacks” people are finding on social media.

In this TikTok video posted by the Let’s Try It account, they poke fun at one of these trending “hacks” where a woman’s inner voice is telling her not to try whitening her teeth with a Magic Eraser.

In case you aren’t aware, a Magic Eraser is a specialty cleaning sponge manufactured by Mr. Clean that helps to get out scuffs and stains on doors, walls, and around the kitchen and bathroom.

There have also been videos on social media of people using nail files to literally try to file down their teeth for purely aesthetic reasons.

But even the woman in this TikTok video gives herself a big thumbs down after trying to whiten her front teeth with a cleaning tool that contains formaldehyde.

Dentists have warned that using a product like a Magic Eraser on your teeth may initially make them appear whiter, but there’s a good chance that you could be dealing with sensitive and discolored teeth down the line due to its abrasive nature.

There have also been warnings that using a nail file to try to straighten one’s smile can often lead to erosion issues and expensive and painful dental procedures down the line.
