Her limp body shook uncontrollably as blood spilled from her lips.
When Jaylen Cluck discovered his unconscious mom lying on the floor in their California home in October, she was in the midst of a seizure and suffering from internal bleeding.
He knew he had to act quickly, but it wasn't just his mom's well-being that was weighing heavily on his mind. It was also the life of his unborn sister: Stephanie was pregnant and due on Christmas.
With two lives in his hands, Jaylen did what most adults would struggle to do — he kept calm.
Instead of panicking, the 7-year-old kept his composure and rummaged through his mom's things until he found her cell phone.
He immediately dialed 911 and calmly explained his mom's condition. An ambulance pulled up to the address he provided and rushed her to the hospital.
“Most kids don’t help,” says Stephanie, gratitude filling her eyes as she musters a smile. “He could’ve let me lay there and die. She’s a miracle. We’re both a miracle to be here.”
Like many parents, she taught him how to dial 911 in case of an emergency when he was very young, but never imagined he’d actually need it.
Jaylen saved two lives that day with the touch of a few buttons, but it was the training his mom did beforehand that saved their lives. If you agree with the importance of teaching children these skills, please SHARE this story with your friends.
