Bus Driver Asks Students To Write Encouraging Messages Then Uses Them To Decorate His Bus

A school bus driver in Florida wants the bus he drives to be a fun, positive space for students — so he asked the students on his bus to write down some of their favorite quotes, and used their positive messages and artwork to decorate the school bus.

Anthony Burgess began working as a bus driver for Pinellas County Schools in 2023. "There's an honor in driving the bus," Anthony told Good Morning America. "I don't know what happened at home or what went on before they got on my bus." However, he does know that students can have a positive experience on the bus, so he decided to make the environment a bit brighter with the help of the students on his route.

Anthony's bus is now decorated with inspirational quotes and drawings, which he described as "perfect" when speaking to Good Morning America.

On Instagram, Pinellas County Schools said students see Anthony as "a mentor and role model."

Anthony told Good Morning America that he asked students to "pick a quote from someone that inspires them," and was surprised when some students decided to quote him, writing things like, "The world is brighter because you're [a part] of it — Mr. Anthony."

Anthony also told the outlet that one middle school student wrote, "Don't let that monster named 'anxiety' control you!"

He thought it was "really awesome" that the student was open about struggling with anxiety, showing others that "it's OK to talk about how you were feeling," as per Good Morning America.

Other quotes that now decorate the bus include "Your mindset can change the world," "Stay Awesome," and "Never be limited by other people's limited 'Imaginations,'" according to Good Morning America.
