Chilling Photos Show Grandparents & Grandson Swept Away In Hurricane Helene

A family is grieving as a final photo of North Carolina grandparents and their grandson waiting to be rescued from the roof of their house amid the destruction of Hurricane Helene has been circulating social media. Jessica Drye Turner, had issued a plea for help for her family's rescue in a Facebook post made on September 27, 2024.

"My family is currently on the roof of their house in Asheville, NC with nothing but the clothes on their back and one working phone. My parents, in their 70s, my sister and 7 year old nephew have lost everything," she wrote.

In an update, Jessica revealed that her parents and nephew drowned after being swept away by the floodwaters because the roof collapsed. Her sister, Megan Drye, got wedged between something, and was rescued an hour later.

"I cannot convey in words the sorrow, heartbreak and devastation my sisters and i are going through nor imagine the pain before us," she wrote in the Facebook post.

"Please lift my sister who lost her son up in prayers and my other sister and myself as we come together to somehow comfort her and get through each moment banded together. She is alone, without a means to communicate and we don’t know when we will get to her."

In another update made on September 30, 2024, Jessica shared that her nephew's body was recovered. "They just found Micah’s body. He was found 1/4 of a mile past where they found Megan. That was and still is a gut wrenching moment. First hearing that. He was such a perfect little boy. He wanted to be a superhero. And now he is," she wrote. "The last thing micah yelled before he was taken was, 'Jesus! Please help me!'"

A GoFundMe was created to help Megan through the loss of her son. "For Megan Drye, our miracle, who has lived a mother’s worst nightmare. She has survived the unimaginable and lost absolutely everything. The support of others will carry her and encourage her to keep taking one breath, one step, and one day at a time," it reads.

"We have experienced miracle after miracle in her surviving the unimaginable nightmare of losing her parents and 7yo son right before her eyes, her being rescued after 3 hours in the water, to the precious doctors and nurses who took such good care of her as she first faced her new reality, to us being able to get to her even though WNC was completely shut down, to finally being together to begin healing."
