This Homemade Solar-Powered AC Will Save You A Ton Of Money

This simple project is going to change your summer and lower your electric bill. With just a few modifications to your everyday styrofoam cooler, you can totally transform it into an energy-efficient, cheap homemade air conditioner.

All you'll need is an ice chest, PVC pipe, a small fan, and ice. You can even make the cooler solar-powered with an inexpensive solar panel in order to reduce energy. Heavens knows, air conditioners use a ton of energy, which is why the electric bill is always higher during the summer. All you have to do is cut two holes into the lid of the cooler. Place the PVC pipe into one hole and the fan in the other. Place ice inside of the chest. One block of ice can last up to five hours, larger blocks can last up to 10. The homemade air conditioner is able to produce very cold air. In this tutorial, the room quickly goes from 80 °F to 42 °F.

The DIY shows how you can power the unit in three different ways: a battery, an automobile, or a solar panel. For more detailed instructions, watch the video below. How do you stay cool for the summer? Let us know in the comments!
