Almost 10 years after Bob Headings fell from a ladder and became paralyzed from the waist down, his three sons and eight grandsons took him on an unforgettable trip to the Grand Canyon.
Together the family hiked the South Kaibab and Bright Angel trails proving that anything is possible, like the 8-year-old who ran a marathon despite having a brain tumor.
“It’s basically another step showing people that they can do anything with even the greatest obstacles,” his grandson, Jase Headings, said about the trip in the video captured by John Honaker.
But aside from showing a man’s determination to live life to the fullest, the trip also demonstrates the strong love and bond of family.
Despite the rocky, steep terrain, Headings children and grandchildren hiked the trails of the Grand Canyon carrying his wheelchair each step of the way. Instead of complaining, they said they owed it to their father and grandfather.
“It just seemed like a way for us as a family to give back to Dad,” said eldest son Randy Headings.
Random hikers passing by were stunned, including one who said, “It’s probably about my 100th trip into the canyon and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen anything like that.”
