The ways we travel have changed over the decades. While the modes of transportation have remained the same for more than half a century, the ways in which we utilize them are different. Back in the day, when people went to the airport, it was an occasion. People dressed in their best. Women wore heels. Men wore suits. But as air travel became cheaper and more readily available to the middle class, the standards changed.
Today, we attempt to be as comfortable as possible in the airport, with sweats and sneakers being common. But one flight attendant is offering some crucial advice on what you absolutely should not wear to the airport.
Rompers were first on the list.
Cher, who is from Dallas and has been working as a flight attendant for six years, shared fashion don’ts for frequent fliers. She started with rompers. “I would never, never, never wear a romper,” Cher said in a TikTok video. “Going to the bathroom, that thing is going to end up on the floor, just soaked in pee that doesn’t get mopped often.”
@cherdallas I'd never wear them on the plane but the Haviana's from @Revolve I am probably gonna order tbh #flightattendant #traveloutfit #creatorsearchinsights #greenscreen ♬ sonido original – SONIDOS LARGOS
Cher also warned against wearing shorts on the flight. Not because of the often low temperatures onboard, but because of the germs. “The amount of times that dirty diapers get changed on the seats is astonishing,” Cher explained. “Not to mention, people vomit. People are dirty themselves and are sitting in the seat. You’re asking for ringworm or a staph infection by wearing shorts, I’m sorry.”
Layers are important, she said.
Perhaps most surprisingly, Cher said she would never wear a hoodie or sweatshirt without something underneath it. “I’ve had actual medical emergencies because somebody overheated. We had to take her top off and she just had to sit in her bra in the cabin,” she said. “Layers are so important when flying. It can either be so freezing or burning hot. And hot on a plane is a different kind of heat.”
People are wondering when airlines are going to address the real issue.
In the comments section, people shared their go-to travel uniforms, most of which followed Cher’s rules.
“Black leggings, tank top, zip up hoody and hey dudes. Easy peasy,” one user wrote.
Others skipped over the clothing advice and went right toward the real issue. “The price we pay to fly, they should be cleaning the damn planes,” someone commented.
We still won’t wear a romper, but knowing that the urine from the last flight has been cleaned would be great for all parties involved.
