Florida Woman Uses Life Savings To Care For Sick Daughter—Then Wins $2 Million Lottery

April 7 was a life-changing day for Florida resident Geraldine Gimblet. That Friday, the Florida Lottery announced her as the winner of $2 million, which she won from a scratcher ticket that she purchased on a whim. This win is twofold, as Geraldine had spent her life savings on getting her daughter treatment for breast cancer.

Geraldine's daughter shared that her mom had purchased the lottery ticket just a day after she rang the bell upon completing her last treatment for breast cancer.

"My mom had taken out her life savings to take care of me when I was sick. I'm just so happy for her!"

Geraldine collected a lump-sum payment of $1,645,000, with her daughter and granddaughter standing by her side.

"At first the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best. He found the last one," she explained during a press release.

The scratch-off lottery launched in May 2022. The Florida Lottery says there is a 1 in 3.12 chance of winning, with prizes ranging from $10 to $2 million. Geraldine surely received double the luck — and double the win.
