Gabe Adams was born in Brazil without any arms or legs, and because he was born limbless, he was abandoned by his birth mother. She was terrified that she would not be able to provide a good life for him. Gabe ended up in an orphanage all alone, but his story traveled fast.
Janelle Adams, a mother from Utah with 13 children, saw Gabe's photo in a grocery store. "I'd take him in a second," she said to herself. Right then and there, Janelle knew she needed to adopt the orphan boy into her loving family. The rest was history.
Before long, Janelle and her husband Ron were at the airport to pick up their newly adopted son and take him home.
When Gabe was about 9 months old, he arrived at Shriners Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City, Utah, and touched the lives of everyone who walked the hallways. Ken Kozole, who works in the wheelchair and seating department, met Gabe after seeing him roll down the hallway as an infant.
"I thought someone dropped a football! I went to pick it up… and it was Gabe!" Kozole said.
It was there Gabe really gained his great sense of independence. He gets no free ride, no special treatment. He does everything on his own.
It's now more than 20 years since Gabe was adopted by his forever family, and the young adult is thriving. In the clip below, you'll see just what he's capable of.
