Teen Tells Grandmother To Rein In Her ‘Disturbing’ Kids After Complaints About Her Dog

Have you ever been to a restaurant and someone had their dog in there with them? How did you feel about sharing your eating space with a furry animal? Well one grandma wasn't too fond of it, and she wasn't afraid to express her opinion out loud.

An 18-year-old German woman took to Reddit after this woman openly complained about her dog being in the restaurant. The young woman then called out the behavior of the kids with the grandmother and their mom, and now she's wanting to know if she was in the wrong.

The teen went to a restaurant with her family, and brought her dog along.

"My family was at a restaurant to eat out because we celebrated Uncle's 50th Birthday. We also brought our dog along. I completely understand when people are annoyed when there are dogs everywhere and some people really take it too far, I get it, but basically we had no choice," the post read. "Our girl has trauma and can't stay alone for too long and we had no one to watch her. And, I know everyone says that, but she's really well behaved. She just lays under the table, looks around a bit and sometimes begs a little, but only from us. She's also really small."

There was a group with some wild kids in the restaurant as well.

The teen goes on to say that the only other larger group of people was what she assumed to be a mother, grandmother, and two kids, around 3 to 6 years old. She notes that she really likes kids and even wants to work with them one day, but these particular children were "somewhat disturbing" according to her. But still, "not to the point I would complain, honestly."

The grandmother from the group complained about the dog, and the teen clapped back.

"However, pretty suddenly the grandma started to complain about people that bring their dog everywhere and that it's so gross when one is in a closed area. She looked in our direction with an annoyed face and I admit, it annoyed me pretty much," the post read. "Would it have been any of the other guests, I would understand. But our girl was simply minding her own business while their kiddos annoyed everyone. So I looked at her and said 'That‘s rich coming from you, since your group is the most disturbing one here while no one complains about Tinka.'"

The grandmother seemed offended.

"The grandma stared at me and then looked at my parents so they would say something but my mom simply continued to eat and my dad looked back at her and grinned. She looked like she wanted to say more but the other woman told her to let it be and tried to calm the kids down. We didn't interact further the rest of our stay."

Later, the teen wondered if she was too harsh.

The teen went on to say that days after the incident, she was unsure if she was in the right place to say what she said. Though she knows it "really can be annoying when everyone brings their dog everywhere," she felt the need to defend her pet who she says wasn't doing anything to disturb anyone.

The original poster gave some more context.

After the post, the teen added in edits to give more background. For one, the restaurant was dog-friendly. For two, she's not American and notes that dog culture is very different in Europe versus in the US.

Reddit users jumped in with their opinions.

Many users hopped on the post to weigh in. While there were a lot of commenters who didn't seem to think the teen was in the wrong, there were some people who did not at all agree with the fact that dogs should be allowed in any restaurant.

Some comments were a little snarky.

"You want to work with kids but got that irritated you needed to be rude?????" one commenter wrote. "But I question this as what 18 year old says 'kiddos?'

"YTA," another user commented. "It's not your girl, it's a dog. Children are meant to learn to socialize in such places."

But other users jumped to defend the teen.

One comment read: "NTA. They dished it out but were not able to take it, that's on them, not on you."

"NTA," another user stated. "If she doesn't like dogs then she shouldn't go to a dog friendly restaurant. She should also teach those kids to behave as that's far more disturbing than a dog just sleeping under the table. I'd rather go to a restaurant with dogs than one with screaming kids running around."
