Cops Tell Strangers To Get Drunk, Then Make Them Walk In A Straight Line To Prove It

With the holiday season upon us, cops are preparing themselves for the inevitable: an increase in drunk driving across the country.

Officers are well aware that people will be tempted to get behind the wheel after having one too many, and they are trying everything they can to try to stop as many people from doing so.

For some departments in the country, this plan involves asking locals to get drunk for a cause.

This may seem counter-intuitive, but the volunteers would submit themselves to a sobriety test after a night of drinking.

The officers say that they simply can't rely on breathalyzer tests to determine a person's level of inebriation, as it cannot assess behavior. Even a low BAC (Blood Alcohol Level) does not necessarily mean that a person is not impaired.

A person's behavior, on the other hand, can offer clues as to one's level of intoxication and differs from individual to individual.

The training teaches the officers to recognize key behaviors associated with the consumption of alcohol or other mind-altering substances. Volunteers attempted to walk in a straight line and to balance themselves on one foot, among other tests.
