Captain Dave Anderson was having a normal day in his small boat off the coast of California, when he suddenly saw a large black shadow moving around just under the surface of the ocean waves.
He sped his little skiff as fast as it would go towards the mysterious moving amorphous shadow. Unsure of what it could have been, he decided to take the chance anyways; in spite of all of the shark reports he grabbed his GoPro camera, pressed record, and plunged his hand as far as it would go underwater.
There was nothing there! Anderson angrily leaned even furthur off the edge of his tiny boat, eyes straining for the dark shadow; suddenly it reappeared and he plunged his camera under the surface again! What he captured was awe-inspiring.
A whole pod of the elusive false killer whales. These majestic beasts of the sea live all throughout the world, but data regarding them in their natural habitat is limited. Usually only studies have been conducted on these beautiful creatures in captivity, but Anderson was giddy at the chance to see them gracefully floating in utter freedom.
As their name implies, they share a friendly family resemblance with the more popular black and white killer whale, but in fact they're more related to the common bottle-nosed dolphin! These cute guys are all about 16 feet long, and with adorable faces like that, they should definitely be more popular!
This wonderful moment will certainly be an incredible memory for Anderson, and thanks to his camera he was able to share this breathtaking footage with the whole world! Seeing this group of animals, happily swimming in the wild, should bring a smile to anyone's heart who is lucky enough to watch the video below!
